Unlike many cruise voyages you will rarely be out of the sight of land. The constantly changing backdrop of the cruise is provided by one of the world’s most dramatic coastlines, from the temperate climes of Bergen in the south, to the glacier-covered Svalbard Islands, on the edge of the Arctic.

A Baltic cruise is a great experience. You can expect to see a wealth of history, architecture and wildlife, the Baltic’s has always been a place of great interest for many people for a long time, ever since it became a region of strategic value, and trade routes. Apart from the political and geographical interests of the Baltic’s there are greater traits that are the real attractions, and these are the cultures, scenery and ancient remains. In isolation these attractions do not amount to anything out of the ordinary but in combination it all add up to a powerful experience. The Baltic States are essentially Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, although Finland has been considered amongst them too, from the sea perspective you see all this and more. A Baltic cruise is a truely remarkable experience and during the summer months the Baltic has particulary sunny weather.

The finest characteristics of the Baltic are probably the northern regions; because there you'll find wonderful cities, serene fjords, memorable landscapes and even some lovely beaches. Along the West coast, deep Fjords run down into the peak ranges charmed by waterfalls.

The beauty of a Baltic cruise is the fact that you will view many magnificent sites which cannot be viewed by land, such as mist-shrouded fjords and spectacular waterfalls.

Here are some of the historical cities that you will encounter during a Baltic cruise:

Helsinki: is situated on the Katajonkka peninsula, and is the capital of Finland and is built within a
stylish boulevard, it is the scene of some great Art Nouveau architecture, and it is famous as the
     birthplace of composer, Jean Sibelius
Amsterdam: a gloriously relaxed city of tall gabled houses, leafy canal walks, pavement cafes and
excellent shops. Here you can visit the house of wartime diarist Anne Frank, the fascinating Vincent van
Gogh Museum, or the Rijks museum, which has a large collection of works by Rembrandt.
 Riga: capital of Latvia, it is one of the Baltic's most beautiful cities and is another architectural glory;
Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings compete for attention.
Copenhagen: home to the world famous sculpture of the Little Mermaid, this vibrant city is also
famous for it’s shopping. This centres on the Stroget, Europe's longest pedestrianised shopping street,
which offers plenty of pretty pavement cafes for those who want a break from torturing their credit cards.
If historical sites interest you more than shops, you can explore the imposing Christiansborg Palace,
stroll the battlements of Kronberg Castle (formerly Elsinore, the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet) or
enjoy all the fun of the fair at the famous Tivoli Gardens.
Stockholm: a European city of culture, it is a jewel set among myriad small islands, has the
magnificent medieval district of Gamla Stan to discover, as well as a museum housing the world's oldest
recognized warship, which sank in the harbour in 1628.
St Petersburg: the jewel in the Baltic crown rates an overnight stay on many cruise itineraries, so
passengers have time to take it all in. The world famous Hermitage Gallery, with its astonishing array of
artistic treasures, merits at least a day on its own but you must find time to visit Aurora - the battleship
whose gun signalled the start of the Russian revolution - and the city's magnificent palaces, which
     include the Versailles-like Peterhof.
Oslo: a city of stunning parks and serene lakes, Oslo is a real charmer with its 18th and 19th Century
frescoed houses. Make time here to visit The Viking House and view its extraordinary exhibit of Viking
     ships and their treasures.
Tallinn: another medieval magnum opus, Estonia’s capital, is renowned for its splendid 15th Century
domed church and its remarkable assortment of structural design - legacy of Teutonic, Polish and
     Russian rule.
